Batik work in Nigeria

Nigeria is an endowed nation with lots of innovation, ideas and creativity. With more involvement in arts both visual and creative arts. The art work common to Nigeria includes Calving, painting, Sculpturing, Moulding, Fabric designing... and so on. The Fabric designing in Nigeria is more of a specialty to the South-Western part of the Country, especially Osun state. Osun state is also a centre for tourism for a festival called Osun-Osogbo Festival.
Osogbo, has been the center of this Fabric designing, both in production of Aso-Oke and Adire. Adire is a type of textile designing that requires dyeing. It may be of the wax and dyeing type or tie and dyeing type. The wax-dye type can also be regarded as Batik. A typical example of batik is what's shown above. This was produced by having a wax resisting the dye. Two colour dye was used-- a reason for tagging it 2 colour. At first, wax was applied to the fabric to resist the first colour. Then, it's allowed to dry. Another subsequent design was then made on the coloured or dyed fabric. This fabric wad dyed again, concluding the process. This technique is the basic approach towards batik production.
In Nigeria, unlike other part of the world where tjanting tools are used for wax application. A foam-shave shaped into pencil like structure is used to uptake the hot wax and apply on the fabric. The fabric produced above was designed and dyed by Temiloluwa Home of Creativity. For your patronage, kindly contact +2348161375339 or email us at olorunlanatemiloluwa@hotmail.com.
